Trenton Alumni Chapter

Chartered April 6, 1949

On April 6, 1949, the Trenton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was officially chartered at the Carver Branch Y.M.C.A. in Trenton, New Jersey. This milestone marked the culmination of efforts by eight determined Brothers—Calvin Anderson, James A. Floyd, Samuel J. Floyd, Carl Leftwich, Frank Murray, Richard W. Nevius, Arthur T. Shack, and Howard B. Waxwood, Jr.—who met monthly as an unchartered chapter. Their commitment, supported by Brothers William Howard, Enos S. Andrews (Northeastern Province Polemarch), and I. Theodore Donaldson (Grand Board Director), resulted in the successful petition to establish the chapter.

Since its founding, the Trenton Alumni Chapter has been a beacon of service and leadership. Its contributions include charity walks, issuing book awards and scholarships, volunteering at nonprofits, clothing drives, voter registration initiatives, mentoring youth, and much more.

The James M. Kidd Distinguished Service Award

The Trenton Alumni Chapter’s influence extends beyond its local community. The James M. Kidd Distinguished Service Award, the highest accolade in the Northeastern Province, is named in honor of Brother James M. Kidd, a chapter member and the eighteenth Northeastern Province Polemarch. This award recognizes alumni with at least five consecutive years of membership in good financial standing who have rendered outstanding service to the fraternity at the local, provincial, or national level, resulting in lasting benefits.

Notably, Trenton Alumni Chapter members James Floyd, a chapter charter member, and Dennis Golden have received this distinction, exemplifying the chapter’s legacy of leadership and service.

The Trenton Alumni Chapter’s enduring impact reflects the core principles of Kappa Alpha Psi—achievement, service, and brotherhood—as it continues to uplift its community and fraternity.
